When and why did you start calligraphy?

I started calligraphy in October 2023, I had always thought it was a beautiful art and found it interesting but never knew where to start. During September I was struggling with grief and I had neglected my hobbies. I was on Instagram and on my "for you" page I came across the calligraphy room. Instantly I was amazed that I could learn calligraphy from home, with tutorials and the tools provided. I remember watching Kate's videos, and being mesmerised by how beautifully intricate a simple word could be. I think within 5 minutes of first being on the page, I had paid for my first box.

What are your goals for Calligraphy? 

My goal with calligraphy has always been to just enjoy it as a hobby. Over the last few months I have incorporated calligraphy into gifts I have made and I think there is nothing better than gifting someone you love with a gift and a card you have made for them specifically. So for me I will be continuing this! Although through showing friends how far I've come since a October, I have been asked by two friends to do various decor pieces for their weddings (place cards, seating plan, relationship timeline), which I am very excited for.  For now, I just plan on making gifts for those that I love but if a business adventure comes out of it I won't say no!

How are you finding your subscription with The Calligraphy Room? 

I love the subscription so much, every month I am so excited to see what we have in our box! Kate puts so much love and attention into every single one of these boxes! Without even realising, you're learning with every single box and developing your skill even further. Each month I can see an improvement and I wouldn't happen without Kate's beautiful books and tutorials!

A note from Rhea…
I love calligraphy for the calmness it brings, as a midwife I use calligraphy to decompress after a stressful shift. I find it so relaxing and encourages mindfulness. The wonderful community that is the calligraphy room, is just incredible. To be in a safe space to ask questions or share our calligraphy is just so lovely!
