When and why did you start calligraphy?

I started in lockdown when you did the free online classes, I got myself one of your beginner boxes and got stuck in. I was in the middle of planning for my wedding and I was looking for ways to do as much DIY aspects as possible. I managed to do all my own invites, place settings and table settings from just the beginner box and the online sessions. I've always loved crafts/art and just stumbled across your Instagram one day in lockdown, I wanted to learn a new skill as a way to relax and be mindful whilst we were stuck inside. From the moment I started I was truly hooked, I love it!!! It honestly brings me so much joy, I look forward to my few hours of calligraphy on a Saturday and I also really enjoy organising all my calligraphy supplies, I'm a true stationary nerd!

What are your goals for Calligraphy?

I would love to do something artsy as a mini business (scary!) but at the moment it is just a hobby that allows me time to be mindful and destress. A few friends have asked me to make little pieces of artwork and quotes for their houses and I now make all my own birthday cards and a lot of personalised gifts for friends for birthdays/weddings/house warmings. Nothing can beat a personalised present, this has also allowed me time to get back into my art so I can design things for the gifts. My husband and I have recently turned our little bedroom into a craft room for me and I would love to do a mural on the wall similar to the one I've seen in your studio, I just need to try and master faux calligraphy a little more and start to think through some designs. I'm thinking it may be a summer holidays project when I'm off school.

How are you finding your subscription with The Calligraphy Room?

I LOVE IT! Having a mini focus every month is just perfect, I was starting to feel a little stuck in how to improve and what to do to get better and this came at the perfect time. I love receiving the box each month, a little present from myself to myself. I love the challenges, I find them really motivational with a little project. Each theme is well thought out and I love to keep all the booklets organised and go back to them a lot when I'm making little gifts. I love the community on Facebook, it is so nice to see other peoples work and to share what you create.

A note from Jessica…
I've bought subscriptions for a few friends who have also loved it and I talk about it to everyone all the time, I'm sure at some point they'll get sick of me! A few friends are now also part of the calligraphy room, which is nice.

Thank you for everything you do with the subscription box, it is really appreciated!
