When and why did you start calligraphy?

I started learning calligraphy at the end of 2020 to make my own wedding invitations. I already loved hand lettering, brush lettering and faux calligraphy. I wanted to try calligraphy with a nib to make my wedding stationary extra special.

What are your goals for Calligraphy?

Calligraphy is a hobby for me. I made a new years resolution this year to find some hobbies that focus on time for myself. I have two young daughters and a busy job so taking up calligraphy has been great as it has helped me find a creative outlet. I've actually even started using different styles and techniques for my date headings in my daily planner, it brings me joy every day.

How are you finding your subscription with The Calligraphy Room?

I LOVE IT!. It’s given me structure in my hobby time and it helps me dedicate at least a few hours every month - even when I’m super busy. It's also been very eye opening. Calligraphy doesn't just have to be about learning letters and words, you can interoperate illustration, colour and so much more. I hadn't thought that way before!

A note from Jessica…
Regular calligraphy practise has made me remember how much I love simple penmanship. Which has made me put more time into my planner daily pages. My brain is so busy and full nowadays that it's amazing what taking the time to write out my planner each evening does for me. When a page is beautifully written out with gorgeous bouncy calligraphy, it feels like my daily meditation. It feels grounding for me.
